The award was presented in an online event together with the Hermann Staudinger Prize and the Reimund Stadler Prize. The Dr. Hermann Schnell Scholarship supports young scientists in the field of macromolecular chemistry - this year, in addition to Dr. Johannes Brendel, Dr. Lutz Nuhn from the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz is also being honoured.
In his lecture entitled "From reactive polymers to functional nanostructures of various shapes", Brendel addressed how the formation of polymer structures of various shapes can be specifically influenced on the nanoscale. In addition, he used examples to show how these materials can be designed more intelligently - so that they only disintegrate after a defined time, for example, and release encapsulated molecules.
