Dual inhibitors of prostaglandin E2 syn¬thase-1 and 5-lipoxygenase as anti-inflammatory payloads in nanoparticles

We will study dual inhibitors of 5-lipoxygenase (or FLAP) and microsomal prostaglandin E2 synthase (mPGES)-1 that may display better anti-inflammatory efficacy and lower risks of side effects versus non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). As these dual inhibitors are acidic lipophilic molecules with strong tendency for plasma protein binding, encapsulation into hydrophobic polymer libraries (polyesters, polyketals or dextran acetals) by diverse encapsulation methods may improve their bioavailability and efficacy. We will also design targeted nanoparticles as some immune cells show excellent uptake thereof.
